Accessibility Scanner condensed demo at Microsoft events

The GitHub Accessibility Scanner condensed demo is a short, booth-ready simulation planned for the Microsoft AI Tour, Microsoft Ignite, and Microsoft Build events. Rather than presenting the full project, it walks visitors through how the scanner helps teams find and address accessibility barriers earlier in development. The AI Tour includes 35 one-day events during FY27.

The simulation follows three personas whose experiences make the impact of inaccessible software tangible:

  • Ernesto Morales is a theater box-office volunteer in his 70s who loves volunteering in his community. He has low vision and contrast sensitivity.
  • Keira Holladay is an indie game project manager in her 20s who likes to host live stream events. She is a blind screen reader user.
  • Travis Cole is a makerspace coordinator in his 40s who records safety tutorials for his weekend workshops. He has limited dexterity and uses a keyboard only.

The experience is designed for booth visitors who may not be developers or accessibility specialists. High-level demo guidance, short videos, and talk tracks help booth staff explain the scanner, guide visitors through the simulation, and answer common questions without requiring deep technical knowledge.

What visitors learn

Visitors see how automated accessibility checks can identify potential barriers and turn the results into practical next steps. The demo keeps the conversation focused on the people affected by inaccessible experiences while connecting those barriers to the software-development workflow.

The supporting material gives visitors information they can take back to their engineering teams, including where accessibility testing fits into development, what automated scanning can and cannot find, and why human review remains essential.

Booth goals

  • Give a broad audience an approachable introduction to accessibility.
  • Help volunteer staff deliver a consistent experience at every tour stop.
  • Demonstrate how GitHub tools can bring accessibility feedback into engineering workflows.
  • Provide practical follow-up material for visitors and their engineering teams.
